The cell membrane structure

Why?

The cell membrane is a double layer of fat-like molecules with proteins floating in it, called the fluid mosaic model.

Two layers of molecules with water-loving heads and water-fearing tails line up tail to tail, while protein icebergs drift through them.

Press the button to build the cell membrane molecule by molecule.

Drag the picture to look around.

A cholesterol molecule slips between the tails and keeps the membrane from going too stiff in the cold.
