Anaerobic respiration
Why?
Without oxygen, cells release a little energy from glucose by anaerobic respiration, making lactic acid in muscles or alcohol and carbon dioxide in yeast.
In a sprint, muscle cells run short of oxygen, lactic acid builds up as red dots and the legs begin to burn.
Press the button to see muscles and yeast respire without oxygen.
