Plant and animal cells compared

Why?

Plant and animal cells share a membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus, but only plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts and a large vacuole.

A brick-shaped green plant cell and a round animal cell sit side by side, and matching parts light up in both while the extra plant parts glow green.

Press the button to compare a plant cell and an animal cell, then squeeze them.

Drag the picture to look around.

Both cells are squeezed: the round animal cell squashes flat, but the plant cell keeps its shape thanks to its stiff wall.
