Cells come in many shapes

Why?

Cells have different shapes that suit their jobs: long and thin, round, flat or branching.

A long thin nerve cell stretches from a toe to the spine like a cable, next to a round red blood cell shaped like a dimpled sweet.

Press the button to meet three cells with very different shapes.

Drag the picture to look around.

Flat skin cells fit together like floor tiles, while a branching nerve cell spreads out like a tree.
