The endomembrane system

Why?

The nuclear envelope, ER, Golgi apparatus and vesicles work together to make, modify and ship proteins and lipids.

An insulin protein is built on rough ER, packed in a bubble, labelled in the Golgi and released from a pancreas cell.

Press the button to follow insulin from the nucleus out of the cell.

Drag the picture to look around.

A lysosome bubble full of digesting enzymes fuses with a worn-out mitochondrion and breaks it down for recycling.
